Adaptive yoga supports people living with physical trauma, mobility impairment, disability, and older adults.
While an adaptive yoga class looks physically different than a traditional class, the principles of yoga apply across the board. Our community needs teachers and caretakers who can create an environment where yoga is inclusive of everyone, whether they have a traditional yoga practice or not. Come try an adaptive yoga class from stroke survivor Abigail Atkinson and learn some tips on modifying for different abilities!
Here are props commonly used in an adaptive class:
- two chairs
- a strap
- blocks
- tennis ball or golf ball
- blanket
- bolster
- a wall
For today's class - we'll use two chairs, a strap and blocks. You can use a stack of books or box for blocks. Or a robe tie or belt for a strap, if you don't have those props on hand.
